Potty training and Autism

An ongoing battle! These words are the first to come to mind to describe my experience in trying to teach Michael to go to the potty. Last night the frustration of trying for the past nine days having success five days straight with constant reminders, to the past four days of not always getting to him on time had brought me to tears. I simply don't know what else I can do.
I have been trying to train Michael since the age of four and trust me I have tried everything and to be only more discouraged when using my friend google to give me answers. I found out that it is indeed very hard and most children are not trained until the ages of nine or ten!!!!
Last night I came down a little hard on Michael due to the frustration of knowing he can do it, five days straight tells me something! It's not like he doesn't know how! All he could say after I calmed down was " Your're happy now! I cuddled him until he fell asleep due to the guilt of having expressed myself the way I did.
I am open to all suggestions and as I continue to write this blog it will be a topic that I will be keeping you up to date.
